Privacy policy

In short: Kamiland needs nothing about you: no account, no email, no name. What you enter about your child stays on your device – unless you switch on syncing between your devices. There are no ads and no built-in analytics or tracking services. For real animal photos, videos and animal sounds, the app connects to Wikimedia Commons.

2. What is stored on your device
So that Kamiland works, the app stores the following on your device:
the parent PIN, not in plain text but only as a check value (hash)
for each child: a first name or nickname, if you like the month of birth (without the day), the chosen animal picture, favorite color, favorite topics and settings such as sound, vibration and background
the playtime rules, the time played per day and which child is playing
when you agreed to the terms of use and whether you allowed syncing
Without syncing, none of this is sent to us or to anyone else. The profile picture is always a drawn animal, never a photo of your child.
This information only serves to provide you with Kamiland’s features (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can change it at any time in the parents’ area. A deleted child profile disappears from the app immediately; everything is removed from your device completely when you delete Kamiland.
3. Syncing between your devices (optional)
If you use Kamiland on several devices, for example two phones and a tablet, you can switch on syncing. We then store on our server only what the profiles need on all devices:
a random identifier for your family and for each device – no account, no email, no name
for each child the name or nickname you entered, the animal picture, favorite color, favorite topics and settings
the playtime rules, the time played per day and the game progress
Never stored: photos, the age or month of birth, information about the parents, and the parent PIN. Another device can only join with a short code that you display on one of your devices.
The data is held by our service provider Supabase on servers in the EU (Ireland). Supabase processes it only on our behalf and according to our instructions, on the basis of a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can switch off syncing at any time in the parents’ area. Once it is no longer switched on on any of your devices, we delete your family’s data from the server.
4. Content from our server
Kamiland keeps the animal albums, texts, pictures and voice recordings up to date by loading them from our server at Supabase (EU, Ireland) and storing them on your device, so that they also work without the internet. For technical reasons, your IP address and general information about the device and app are transmitted; the service provider keeps such access logs only briefly. Names, profiles or other information from Kamiland are not transmitted. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing you up-to-date content (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
5. Photos, videos and animal sounds from Wikimedia Commons
Kamiland loads many real photos, videos and animal sounds directly from the servers of Wikimedia Commons, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation Inc., based in the USA. For technical reasons, your IP address and general information about the device and app (for example the operating system version) are transmitted to these servers, as when visiting any website. Names, profiles or other information from Kamiland are not transmitted.
We use Wikimedia Commons to show you and your child real animal footage (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may be transferred to the USA in the process. 6. App Store
Kamiland is available in Apple’s App Store. Apple processes data for the download under its own responsibility. If you have allowed sharing analytics data with app developers in your device settings, we receive aggregated statistics and crash reports from Apple that do not identify you by name.
7. What Kamiland does not do
no ads and no in-app purchases
no built-in analytics or tracking services and no usage profiles
no chats and no contact with other people
no access to the camera, microphone, photos, contacts or location
8. Made for children, set up by parents
Kamiland is set up by a parent or another person with parental responsibility. Settings, profiles and syncing are protected by the parent PIN.
9. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR), and you can withdraw your consent at any time. You can do most of this yourself: change information in the parents’ area, delete profiles, switch off syncing or delete the app. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the authority where you live.
10. Changes
If something changes in Kamiland, we update this policy. For important changes, we ask you in the app to read the new version.
